Who We Are
Meet Harold
Harold grew up in a tax family. His father opened a bookkeeping and tax office near beautiful Lake Merritt in Oakland, California in the mid-1950s. It was a true “family business,” since Harold’s mother also worked full-time as the office manager.
Harold and his brother would visit “L&O Bookkeeping and Tax” when they were young as well as visit some of their father’s tax clients who were also located on East 14th Street, like Virgil’s Texaco station and Abreu’s Drug Store. Abreu’s owner is still a tax client of Harold today, though he lives on a ranch in Montana and is now in his mid-90’s.
Eventually, the office relocated to Park Boulevard near Oakland High School. Harold was trained by his father in bookkeeping and tax preparation. He never got tired of numbers. Harold and his father would often compete to see who was faster with “math in our head.” Harold was very fast but his father was always the champion.
After he graduated from CSU Chico with a bachelor of science accounting degree, his father trained Harold professionally. Harold prepared taxes under his father’s training throughout the 1980’s. He received real-world experience in accounting and tax preparation. After Harold passed the CPA exam, he embarked on his own journey and acquired “Chico Tax Service” in Chico, California. This company has been preparing hundreds of tax returns each year at the same location for thirty years at 1208 Mangrove Avenue in Chico.
Though times have changed, Harold’s enthusiasm to lower clients’ tax bills hasn’t. He enjoys the challenges that new tax laws bring and continues to assist clients with professional and affordable tax and financial services.
